Zanzibar: A Global Treasure Chest

Zanzibar: A Global Treasure Chest

Imagine walking through romantic cobblestone streets, amazed by the aged facades of carefully carved gorgeous architecture, then jaunting through luscious green tropics, ending on soft white sandy beaches with crystalline waters, then back through a bustling market brimming with chatter, laughter, language, and levitating aromas; a daily poetry of sensations; intoxicating fragrances so thick and decadent you can taste it with each breath a new experience.

We choose Zanzibar in our signature candle collection because of this arresting enchantment of the senses. Few other places on Earth embody such a majestic boldness in palette, profile, and personality as Zanzibar. Often overlooked in the conversations about top African vacation locales; whether you’re searching for idyllic beaches, colorful marketplaces, deep-diving aquatics, or safaris, Zanzibar is truly a hidden gem with infinite experiences to offer.

Located on the Eastern coast of Africa, nestled right under the Horn of Africa, Zanzibar is a beautiful archipelago sitting in the Indian Ocean. What’s an archipelago, you may ask? Just a group of islands. What many people know to be Tanzania was actually originally called Tanganyika. Tanganyika is the continental landmass, whereas Zanzibar was a separate archipelago, but in 1964 they united to become The United Republic of Tanzania.

Zanzibar is a melange of cultures: Arabic, Indian, African, Persian, and European, all leaving their influences throughout their history of trade and colonization with the island. The Arab influence is the most prominent, which you can see in the social life, mosques and architecture, and customs. With its ideal location in the Indian Ocean, Zanzibar has been a global treasure chest and destination for centuries. The beauty in this is that Zanzibar’s identity isn’t fixed and singular; It’s unique and diverse. Its identity is a living history.

Zanzibar is known for its spices, earning itself the appropriate nickname “Spice Island.”

Zanzibar first became a heavy trade route from Arabia to Africa because of its abundance of valuable spices, including nutmeg, clove, cinnamon, cardamom, lemongrass, saffron, and much more. These fragrant spices were traded like precious golds and metals and are still highly regarded and sought after today.

Taking inspiration from Zanzibar’s prism of color and aroma, we wanted to create a subtle masculine fragrance that doesn’t overwhelm the senses, but enshroud, so you imbue yourself with a spirit of escape and wonder, allowing you to center yourself, ground yourself, calm yourself, and fill yourself with a perfect mix of tropical paradise and childhood nostalgia. You deserve this time to vibe, chill, decompress, release, and just be.
